Father God Lord Jesus Holy Spirit We present ourselves before You again this Sunday. We have come in, out of the elements, From the road we’ve been walking. We’ve been drawn to this gathering. We’ve chosen to respond to God’s draw. Maybe this particular call today; Maybe a life changing invitation decades ago. Whether we’re still investigating You Or we’ve walked with You down many roads, We long for more encounters with You Because a single engagement with your Conviction, your forgiveness, your hope Can change our foundations. And we know we need a more solid Place to rest. We need a deeper peace, A more thorough forgiveness, A cleaner heart. And we know we cannot find These foundation stones along the road. We know You build our foundations. Unless You build the house, we labor in vain. We can want to build, but we don’t Possess the power to give ourselves Peace, a forgiving spirit, or a clean heart. We will never give up looking for Genuine experiences of You. There’s always more for You to build in us. And the best is yet to be, every construction Detail finished, in our forever home. Amen.
Hi Karen,
I love your Sunday meditations on a Psalm. Today I'm struck by three things.
First, I love your reminder to see God "drawing" and "inviting" me (maybe from today and maybe from decades ago). It is SO wonderfully encouraging to remember that He loves us so much and that He constantly woos us to His presence. (I tend to remember that I want Him; but knowing He wants me is breathtakingly beautiful ... and just what my soul mostly deeply needs!)
Second, I love the reminder that we all long for more "encounters" with the Father. And I love your reminder that these beautiful encounters can be both CONVICTION of sin and FORGIVENESS of sin. Too many of us are afraid of the conviction, but without it, we are left with the hidden shames that are left unaddressed. Only the good, good Father knows how to lovingly convict, like the surgeon who removes the cancer to bring full healing.
And lastly, thanks for reminding me of my One and Only True Rest. I'm looking too many other places (YouTube and naps!) when the only rest for my soul is in Him.
Thanks!
Sam
