I was captured by your first sentence: God wants and honest relationship.
Yes! Ever-so-much. Why are we so afraid to be honest with God? And we ARE afraid. So many of us still think and pray in our hearts, "I thank you God that I'm not like ...."
Sure, we may not do that things they do, but we do other things that are just as bad in God's eyes.
I love David's confession: Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love.
If we knew him, we wouldn’t be afraid to be honest, would we? If we knew his tender heartedness and compassion. If we knew that he wants to know us, relationally. If we knew that our deepest rebellions are covered by his blood.
Wouldn’t we want our children to come and tell us how angry they are at us and how disappointed? For we humans, that gives us a chance to repent and reconcile.
With God, He gets a chance to speak his words of hope and comfort to our deep heart. To help us get a bigger perspective.
I’m thinking mostly about our deep disappointments with God and you’ve taken it in a direction of honesty about our sin, which is also crucial. And, of course, our disappointment with God is also sin because it’s unbelief. It is so hard to face the depths of our pride, rebellion and unbelief.
Yes. Have mercy, based on your steadfast love. It’s our only hope, right?
Gosh, Sam, thanks for sparking more words today. Always appreciate hearing from you. Blessings on your day. Take care of yourselves in the nasty smoke.
We’re in central Illinois, but thinking of going to South Haven area next week, where the air quality is over 100. Unhealthy for the elderly, which is us…😂 I didn’t actually check Ann Arbor, just assumed it was bad there, too. Glad it’s not!

I'm in southern Michigan, so we aren't getting any smoke, not that I know of anyway!
I forget what state you are in.
