In the category of events that defy explanation: My dear mother-in-law, Libby, kept a Sansevieria plant in her kitchen at a north window. She watered it, but didn’t pay too much attention to it. It looked healthy enough, but it never grew any fresh leaves. Until one of her sons got married. It started growing a new leaf. And then the second of her two children, another son, got married a year later. The plant put out another leaf. Mind you, those were the first new leaves that plant had ever produced. And, when our daughter, Libby’s only grandchild, was born, the plant bloomed! It’s a bit unbelievable, but we witnessed it. In thirty years of possessing that plant, those three growths were all it ever displayed. Neither before nor after did the plant add any new leaves nor did it blossom. At significant moments, a plant, colloquially called a “mother-in-law’s tongue” evidenced the only growth ever noted, including a bloom. I have no idea what to make of it, other than there’s more going on in this existence than we have any idea of. The Lord bless you and keep you all your days.

I loved this piece! Fascinating mystery! I didn't even know sansevierias bloomed. I've never seen one bloom anyway. Life and flourishing matter. Celebration of life matters. All of life is sensitive, including plant life.
