The suffering we endure is often mysterious. We don’t understand why we are asked to endure mental illness, or wayward children, or childlessness, or unwanted singleness, or chronic temptations. But the flip side is also true. The goodness we enjoy is also mysterious. It makes no sense if we enjoy a decades long marriage or financial provision or the peace of good mental health. We can say we did the emotional and physical work, yes, but where did the resources come from? Why did we have the grace? Why does it seem like others don’t? As the song says, Tis mystery all. We trust a mysterious Father God. Compared to Him, we are three year olds. We can walk, hand in hand, with Him, trusting his magnificent vision of what’s coming and what it’s worth. The Lord bless you and keep you all your days.

Very true, Karen. Also true, but never talked about is why there isn't more evil than there is. Why do any of our physical bodies, or our minds work with the incredible longevity and accuracy that they do? God's common grace is almost never realized in the world, and too seldom among believers. I am guilty of that too much myself. As the old song goes, if we count our blessings it will indeed surprise us what the Lord has done!
