What are the hymn tracks of your life? Those worship songs that you sang in the early days that come back to you over and over?
Or, if you’re newer to walking with Jesus, what songs stick with you from last Sunday?
I’m grateful for the long ago repetitive songs we sang at Urbana Assembly of God in the mid ‘70s:
“This is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
“The joy of the Lord is my strength.”
"And can it be…”
Twila Paris, The Joy of the Lord
Many times, the lyrics are scriptures, which we have inadvertently memorized by singing them over and over. The melodies add to the stickiness in our spirits. Along with the sermons and the Sunday School classes, we learned who God is and who we are from theologically rich singing.
Let’s not take for granted the Charles Wesleys, Fanny Crosbys, and Chris Tomlins. As their words and melodies return to us through the years, they continue to feed our faith.
Do you have a song or two that strengthens you day by day?
Mine is Song of Solomon sung by Retinos from Calvary Chapel in the 70s.
“Come unto me, oh my beloved, let me show you My love. Not like a morning cloud, but a Shepherd. Let me show you My love.
