Interrogating our emotional overreactions will yield good fruit. If we are less than kind, less than loving, less than peaceful, we can take those episodes to our Father for clarification. “Father, this morning, my tone of voice was very sharp with my wife when she didn’t understand a direction I was giving her as we worked on a project together. I don’t know why I spoke so unkindly, but You do. I want to be kind and loving in every interaction, but I’m not always. Would You give me understanding? What’s behind that overreaction?” Then, let’s keep our spiritual ears tuned. Expect our good Father to provide insight through a new thought, a connection to previous pain, a line in something we read, or a conversation with a friend. Or some unique method of communication that is special only to you. We are his delightful children and He loves it when we want to grow in love. Using this simple approach is a way to actively participate in our sanctification. Lord, give us more sensitivity to our less than loving actions and give us grace to question those reactions so we can grow in wisdom and healing, to your glory and our good. The Lord bless you and keep you all your days.
